The war in Vietnam is known as the American War or the 10,000 Day War. It had a massive impact on the USA and, of course, a much larger impact on Vietnam itself.

Casualties	3m killed, 5m injured. 0.2m babies born with birth defects due to chemical weapons.	58 000 killed, 300 000 injured. Massive mental health problems amongst veterans.
Cost	The war left Vietnam in huge poverty. 11m were made homeless and the economy collapsed.	$169 billion. LBJ could not afford to build his Great Society.
Other	2m refugees left the country - the Vietnamese boat people. 100,000 babies were fathered by US soldiers.	Huge damage to America's reputation. The conflict made the US very reluctant to become involved in foreign wars; this lasted until 9/11.
